Community Health Worker Gives Back Where She Grew Up
The Latin American Legal Defense and Education Fund (LALDEF) has been doing bilingual outreach about COVID-19 and the flu and working to improve vaccine access in the Latino/a/x community of Mercer County, New Jersey. LALDEF’s dedicated Community Health Workers (CHWs) play a critical role by connecting at-risk residents with vital services and information in culturally sensitive ways. LALDEF Community Health Worker Caty Dominguez, a first-generation Mexican American who is fluent in Spanish, grew up facing many of the same adversities as the immigrant families she now serves, and she welcomes the opportunity to help other families in need. Caty is now the project leader for COVID-19 vaccine access at LALDEF, and she looks forward to continuing her work as a CHW and bringing about change and a healthier future for marginalized communities.
