Factsheet provides information on the importance of the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine and explains that HPV infections are very common. The HPV vaccine is safe and effective against multiple types of cancer and is recommended for boys and girls starting at age 11 to 12 through age 26. Individuals older than 26 should talk with their doctor about HPV vaccination if they have not been vaccinate and are at risk of a new HPV infection.
